I’m Mahalia, and I run the Parent and me groups at fixation on a Monday. I am a mum of two, a two year old girl and a 10 month old boy.
It is a whirlwind of love, chaos, and constant motion.
Some mornings feel like a sprint in itself before the day has even properly started. Juggling nappies, tantrums, cuddles, and all the little things in between. But despite the exhaustion, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I jumped at the chance when Carly and Laura reached out about the initial idea for the parent and me groups. It’s a job that blends beautifully with parenthood, It’s not just about the 30 minute music and dance sessions we offer; it’s about creating a space where parents feel seen, supported, and connected. The stay and play afterwards, complete with a well earned hot drink, gives parents the chance to breathe, chat, and build friendships. I’ve come to realise how important that sense of community is, especially during those early, often isolating months of parenting.
In many ways, my work fills a need in my own life. While I can be a part of a space that helps other parents connect, I’m reminded that I’m not alone in the chaos. We laugh, share stories, and we support one another. Balancing work and parenthood isn’t easy, but being surrounded by a community of parents walking a similar path while navigating my own journey makes it deeply fulfilling.
Parent and Baby sessions run every Monday morning at Finchley Youth Theatre, N2 9ED.
